Aquatic Ecologists at Yates

Program Type: Summer Camp
Program Number: 511
Date: Jul. 20 - Jul. 24; Monday-Friday, 9 am-noon
Requirements: Grades 3-5/minimum age 8
Location: Other - Yates Mill Pond
Fee: $85 per person ($80 Friends)

This week-long focus on life in and around the water, from tadpoles to snapping turtles, will be based at Yates Mill Pond. Learn aquatic science in the field through experiments, activities and observations.

Yates Mill Pond is located south of downtown Raleigh near the intersection of Lake Wheeler Road and Penny Road. All children must be dropped off and picked up at Yates Mill Pond. Transportation is not available to or from the Museum and Yates Mill Pond.

Geology Rocks

Program Type: Summer Camp
Program Number: 603
Date: Jul. 27 - Jul. 31; Monday-Friday, 1-4 pm
Requirements: Grades PreK-Kindergarten/minimum age 4
Location: Museum of Natural Sciences - 3rd floor classroom
Fee: $80 per person ($75 Friends)

Unover the fantastic world of rocks, minerals and geological processes. Set off a volcano, pan for fossils, eat crystals and learn about earthquakes and tidal waves in this camp where geology ROCKS!

Jones Street, The Plaza, Edenton Street, The Capitol Grounds, and all four floors of the Museum will be filled with buggy fun!

  • Enjoy the entertaining displays, exhibits and activities — both inside and outside the Museum.
  • Learn about arthropods, which make up three-quarters of all animals on Earth, during fascinating presentations.
  • Taste delectable dishes featuring creepy crawlers as a major ingredient at Café Insecta.
  • Join the moths, fireflies and katydids for an exhilarating evening of nocturnal activities at the Evening Insectival.

This year’s theme bugs are butterflies and moths!

The Plaza, Capitol Grounds, and all four floors of the Museum will be filled with buggy fun!

BUGFEST: Evening Insectival

5 – 9 pm
Jones Street, The Plaza, the Capitol Grounds and the first floor of the Museum will be teeming with live bands, bug stations, a nocturnal insect tour and a street carnival.
